EARLY MAN PROJECT   -A SOCIAL STUDIES UNIT

INTRODUCTION:
Homo Habilis, Cro-Mag-non, Neanderthal, these are some of the forms early man took.  Some scientists believe that man in some form began about 4 million years ago.  Unlike what the movies show, Early Man did not live at the same time as the dinosaurs.  Dinosaurs died out about 65 million years ago. That is a very long time before earliest discovery of any remain of man. In this unit you will have opportunities to discover these fascinating facts for yourselves.

TASK:

You are an eager young intern anthropologist working  for the infamous Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Part of your job is to research about Early Man. Once you have collected the information, you will compile those information in a slide presentation for Elementary age children. To do your job you are to research and study the Early Humans and the rise of Civilization. Your slide presentation must include the following topics:
1. Early Hominids
  1. Who they are
  2. How they lived
  3. What they eat
  4. Tools they used
  5. And Community they belong
2. From Hunters and Gatherers to Farmers
  1. Explain the Stone Age, the Paleolithic Age, and Neolithic Age.
  2. Describe Permanent shelter and Communities. 
  3. Describe the developing of jobs and beginning of trade.
3. The Rise of Sumerian City-States and Civilization 
  1. Explain some key problems faced by early Mesopotamian as they evolved from small farming villages into "City-States"
  2. Explain what are the requirements to be considered a civilization.
  3. Debate whether these Sumerians meet criteria to be considered a civilization.
4. The Four Empires of Mesopotamia
  1. Who are the four empires?
  2. Explain some of their achievements and downfalls. 
  3. And who ruled Mesopotamia after them.

Each slide must have:

1. A Title
2. Must NOT use background picture
2. Paragraphs of text or bullet points answering the required questions
3. One or two picture(s) that are related to your topic.
4. Must have a transition between slides.

**Sources must be properly cited as in the example on the last slide.

PROCESS:​​

2. Watch the video to the right on this topic.
3. Use the links below to read and research about early man and answer the questions for your slides.
4. Once you have collected all the information (have the answer to all the questions, compile the information into your google slide presentation.
5. Present your group slide to the class and your teacher once completed.
